Overview

Ally Invest is the investing arm of Ally Financial, the US online bank. It's built for US investors who want low costs and like having their brokerage sit next to their Ally Bank accounts. The broker side, Ally Invest Securities LLC, is registered with the SEC and a FINRA member, and accounts carry SIPC cover up to $500,000. The advice side is Ally Invest Advisors, an SEC-registered investment adviser. It's not set up for clients outside the US.

Accounts and costs

The Self-Directed Trading account has no minimum and no commission on most US-listed stocks and ETFs. Options trades are commission-free too, though contract fees apply. If you want to trade on margin, you'll need $2,000 in the account. There are also Robo Portfolios from $100, where you pick between no advisory fee or 0.30% a year, and Personal Advice for $100,000 or more, with a blended fee of up to 0.85%. IRAs are available with no yearly maintenance fee, though closing one costs $25.

Platforms and markets

You trade through Ally's own website and mobile app, which include charts, screeners and TipRanks stock ratings. There's no TradingView link and no MetaTrader. Markets are US stocks, ETFs, options, bonds and mutual funds. You won't find futures, crypto, fractional shares or non-US exchanges here. Forex has been offered through Forex.com rather than Ally itself.

Money in and out

Funding is by bank: ACH transfers, transfers from a linked Ally Bank account, wires and checks. ACH withdrawals are free. A wire out costs $30, a check costs $5, and moving your account to another broker costs $50 per transfer.

What traders say

Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.

There is no large review page for Ally Invest on its own. The main Trustpilot page covers all of Ally Financial, about 1,700 reviews spanning banking, car loans and investing, and the bundle shows no current score for it; third-party sites put Ally's Trustpilot scores between about 2 and 2.5. Most of what traders say about the brokerage itself comes from Reddit, where users tend to like Ally as a bank and dislike it as a broker. The Sitejabber page has only 2 reviews, at 1.8.

What traders like

  • One login for banking and investing. Reddit users like moving cash from Ally Bank into the brokerage instantly and seeing everything in one place.

  • Low costs. No commission on stocks and ETFs and cheap options contracts come up as the main reasons people stay.

  • No-fee mutual funds. A few long-time users keep money there for the range of no-transaction-fee funds.

  • Occasional goodwill. One FPA reviewer says Ally refunded part of a large stop-loss slippage without being asked.

Common complaints

  • A dated, slow platform. The most repeated Reddit complaint is that the invest side of the app feels old and clunky next to Fidelity or Schwab.

  • Outages at bad moments. Several threads describe being unable to log in near the close, with phone lines too busy to close positions.

  • Slow transfers out. Reddit users say cash moves into the brokerage in seconds but takes days to come back to Ally Bank, and some withdrawals need a phone call to complete. BBB complaints include rejected withdrawal requests that Ally attributes to pending orders.

  • Support. Long hold times and back-office problems that support cannot fix are common themes.

Recently

No dated reviews about the brokerage itself from the last 90 days. Recent Trustpilot reviews on the Ally page are mostly about banking and car finance.

Where this comes from

  • Trustpilot: Ally Financial's review page, covering all its products.

  • Forex Peace Army: a small set of trader reviews.

  • Sitejabber: two reviews of Ally Financial.

  • BBB: complaints filed against Ally Invest Group.

  • Myfxbook: a review page with little on it.

  • Reddit: a thread on whether Ally Invest will improve.
