## Overview

tastytrade is a US broker built by options traders for options traders, founded by Tom Sosnoff and Scott Sheridan and now owned by IG Group. If you sell premium, trade spreads or want futures options alongside your stocks, it's one of the cheapest and most focused choices. tastytrade, Inc. is an SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA member, and it's also an NFA member for futures. Forex runs through a sister company, tastyfx, which is registered with the CFTC. It takes clients from many countries outside the US too.

### Accounts and costs

There's no minimum to open a cash, margin or IRA account, and you can add joint and entity accounts. Stocks and ETFs are commission-free. Stock and ETF options cost $1 per contract to open, nothing to close, and never more than $10 a leg. Futures are $1 a contract and futures options $1.25, with exchange and clearing fees on top. Exercise and assignment cost $5 per leg. A standard margin account gives 2:1 on stock, and portfolio margin goes up to 6.7:1. Securities are covered by SIPC up to $500,000, but futures and crypto aren't.

### Platforms and markets

tastytrade runs its own desktop, web and mobile platforms, all heavy on options tools: strategy presets, risk analysis and a backtester with over ten years of data. There's an open API, and you can link the account to TradingView. Markets cover US stocks and ETFs, options, futures, futures options, crypto, prediction markets and forex through tastyfx. International shares are only available as ADRs. There's no MetaTrader.

### Money in and out

You fund by ACH from a linked bank, wire or check, and you can even send crypto in from an outside wallet. Card deposits aren't possible. ACH withdrawals are free, but wire withdrawals are expensive.

tastytrade gets a fair but divided reception. It holds 3.8 on Trustpilot from about 610 reviews, though one review site that tracks the same page reports a lower figure, so the score may have slipped this year. Sitejabber has a single review. On Reddit the broker is popular with options traders, with steady complaints alongside the praise.

### What traders like

- **Built for options.** Options traders often say the desktop platform loads chains quickly and makes multi-leg trades take fewer clicks than at other brokers.
- **Pricing on options.** Many like the per-contract commission with nothing to close and a cap per leg.
- **Support that picks up.** Several reviewers say phone support answers quickly and staff are patient and competent.
- **Education and content.** The tastylive network and in-platform video get frequent praise.

### Common complaints

- **Hard to learn.** Some new users find the platform confusing for basic tasks, such as setting up trailing orders.
- **Withdrawals and bank links.** Several reviewers describe trouble linking bank accounts, withdrawable balances showing zero, or fees on wires. A review site lists withdrawals and transfers as a frequent pain point.
- **Account restrictions.** A few Trustpilot reviewers say accounts were moved to closing-only status with little explanation.
- **Promotions.** Some Reddit users say advertised sign-up bonuses were not paid.
- **Direction under IG.** One long-time reviewer feels the broker has declined since IG Group took it over.

### Recently

- **July 2026:** recent Trustpilot reviews include complaints about closing-only restrictions and bank-linking problems on business accounts, alongside praise for support staff.
- **October 2026:** a review site's latest update names the cluttered mobile app, withdrawals and support during account freezes as the repeated user complaints.
